The Northland-Tailevu under-19 football side is on the verge of creating history of their own in the Digicel Southern Zone Youth League.

The Kirtesh Prasad-led side needs one win from its remaining two matches to claim the title for the first time.

“We have the same boys playing for the age group teams from 2017. We feel this is our year and we can make it,” Prasad said.

The team leads the standings with 15 points followed by Rewa on 13.

It has two games remaining against Nasinu and Tailevu-Naitasiri while Rewa plays T/Naitasiri in the last round.

Rewa has dominated the Southern Zone league for the past 10 years. Prasad said this was a good sign for football in Tailevu.

“Majority of these boys play for us in the senior team as well. With proper development this team will do wonders in future.”

Prasad added the 10 players from his U19 side will feature for the senior team at next month’s Courts Inter-District Championship in Suva.
