PM Rabuka: Aiyaz a ‘person of interest’

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says the former attorney-general, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, may have his “movement out of Fiji” restricted if he was subjected to any prosecutorial processes.

He made the comments in an interview this week with New Zealand-based Tagata Pasifika.

Mr Rabuka said Mr Sayed-Khaiyum was allowed to leave the country initially because “there was nothing happening at the time he left”.

“But before his arrival, there were some reports received so he became a person of interest to be investigated by the police,” he said.

“It’s a normal process that I have been subjected to and all citizens must expect to be subjected to if there are issues against them from members of the public.

“Right now he is a person of interest but not yet subjected to any prosecutions processes. ”

He’s free to move aro­und, but if it develops from there, then there maybe some restrictions on his movements, particularly the movement out of Fiji.”

Police have interviewed Mr Sayed-Khaiyum twice regarding a complaint filed by Peoples Alliance party secretary general Sakiasi Ditoka in December on alleged inciteful comments made by the former A-G at a press conference.
