After a hiatus of seven years, the Then India Sanmarga Ikya Sangam (TISI Sangam Fiji) will hold its annual general meeting on June 11 in Nadi.

Police had to intervene and cancel the last AGM on August 28, 2016, after violence broke out amongst members.

The aftermath led to a lengthy court battle with the appointment of an interim committee that was tasked to hold an AGM.

“As per the Fiji Court of Appeal ruling of 4th March 2022, the AGM to be held, shall be based on the membership register as of 21st May 2016,” said interim secretary general Yogeshwar Krishna in the AGM notice.

“All members need to provide their life membership cards (if they have it) or any valid local photo ID for registration.”

In February this year, Nadi businessman and hotelier Damend Gounder declared he would contest the TISI Sangam Fiji president post.

“Now that the courts have said that general elections must be held, I am declaring my interest to contest the post of president,” Mr Gounder had said.

The TISI Sangam Fiji is widely recognised as the premier Hindu organisation in the country.

Positions to be contested at the AGM include — president, secretary general, treasurer, general manager, secretary general administrative, secretary general operations, area vice presidents, legal adviser and auditor.
