Upsets order of the Deans

A new champion will be crowned in this year’s Vodafone Super Deans U18 Championship after reigning champion Queen Victoria School lost to Natabua High School 21-19 yesterday.

The Western-based school broke the hearts of Victorian fans in a last minute converted try to seal their spot.

In the other results, Ratu Kadavulevu School shockingly lost to Marist Brothers High School 13-16 while Lelean Memorial School lost to Suva Grammar School 8-21.

It was the first time in the history of Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union competition that no school from the Eastern Zone qualified for the semi-finals next week.

Ba Provincial Freebird Institute joins Natabua High School in the semi-finals next week after they defeated Nasinu Secondary School 12-5 at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday.

MBHS finished third in the Southern Zone rugby competition and came in as underdogs in this competition.

They broke the hearts of all Lodoni fans who were expecting to have a clean-sweep in this year’s competition after all their grades had qualified except their under-18.

RKS had the services of former Fiji 7s player Nacanieli Saumi while MBHS roped in national Fijiana 7s coach and former player Saiasi Fuli a few days lead up to the competition.

Next week semi-finals will see MBHS take on Ba Pro and SGS will take on Natabua next week.
